TULSA, Okla. – Closing out the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commemoration and as a kickoff to Tulsa’s Juneteenth Celebration, Greenwood Cultural Center will show the virtual reality experience entitled “Greenwood Avenue: A Virtual Reality Experience.”
The VR experience was created by award winning cinematographer and immersive content creator, Ayana Baraka. The story brings us into the 1920’s world of a 14-year-old Black girl experiencing first love & devastating loss in America’s Black Wall Street.
The VR experience is cast with current Tulsans and legendary American actress, Irma P. Hall. The script was influenced by conversations with the late Dr. Oliva J. Hooker, a survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. At the conclusion of the VR experience, one of the last interviews with Dr. Hooker will be shown. The virtual reality experience will be curated by award winning director, VR/AR expert and actor Adrian Rashad Driscoll.
The VR experience will be shown at the Greenwood Cultural Center, June 15 -June 17 at 11am, 3pm & 6pm. For tickets and more information, call the Greenwood Cultural Center at 918-596-1020.

Greenwood Avenue is used as an educational tool to start conversations about systemic racism and teach Black History- specifically, Black Wall Street and the Tulsa Race Massacre- in New York City, Chicago, and Tulsa through our partnerships with the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, TechRow, and RedFlight Innovation sponsored by Russell Westbrook.
The Greenwood Cultural Center, a nonprofit organization, preserves African American heritage and promotes positive images of the African American community by providing educational and cultural experiences, encouraging intercultural exchanges and facilitating cultural tourism.
