Taraji P. Henson, a talented actress, has a new children’s book, “You Can Be a Good Friend (No Matter What!)”, which releases on June 18, 2024.

In an exclusive statement to People, Henson stated, “Mental health struggles can start even in childhood and oftentimes it begins with being bullied. This book isn’t just about bullying though—it’s about how children all have something different about them, and being different is what makes them oh so very special.”

“You Can Be a Good Friend (No Matter What!)” is for the kids who feel different. This book is for parents who want their kids to accept differences. And this book is for the kids and families who’ve encountered hard times because of differences. I can’t wait to see the many conversations my book starts in homes and classrooms everywhere!”

Taraji P. Henson Continues to Shine

Henson’s upcoming book is the next thing for her amazing career, as she excelled in her hit role as “Shug Avery” in The Colored Purple. The film became the second-highest Christmas debut, obtaining $18.15 million in box office sales.

Despite the high ratings and massive success, Henson expressed feelings about being underpaid in the acting realm, especially as a Black female actress. However, although she encountered obstacles, Henson still managed to empower others, which is what her book represents.

What is her first children’s book about?

The book is illustrated by Paul Kellam, as he explains Lil TJ’s first day of school. When Lil TJ arrives at school, she notices that she is different from the other children.

In the book, the character Beau, the class bully, belittles Lil Tj, which leads to her developing anxiety. However, Lil TJ remembers words from her Grandma Pasty. She reminded Lil TJ to be hopeful and continue making new friends.

Henson emphasizes that “So You Can Be a Good Friend (No Matter What!) is for the kids who feel different. This book is for parents who want their kids to accept differences. And this book is for the kids and families who’ve encountered hard times because of differences.”

The purpose of her book is to inspire young children. Henson hopes it will help them manage stress factors and learn to overcome any obstacles. As part of her new book, she promotes mental wellness, socialization-skills, and takes a stand against bullies.
